BCNNA  Meeting Report

The Brushy Creek North Neighborhood Association met on August 1,, 2007 at 7:00 PM at the park in Brushy Creek North.  Board members in attendance were Chauvet Parker, President, Susan Salvati, Secretary, Vicki Martin, Treasurer, and Marsha Surles, Webmaster.  There were 13 other residents in attendance.

Citizen Communication:

1.  Gerry Cheney, President, Sam Bass Fire Department, and David Kieschnick, Chief, Sam Bass Fire Department came to the meeting to present their proposal to possibly build a third fire station on the area along Great Oaks across from the Water Facility retention pond behind Park Street.  They answered all the residents questions, conveyed their plans and explained their reasons for the interest in this piece of land.  The pros and cons of the location of this station were openly discussed.  They assured the residents that the Fire Department would always be “good neighbors” and would not cause any undue hardship on any of the BCN residents.

Some of the concerns of the residents were as follows:

  • Would the buildings be two story?  Answer, No

  • How many fire trucks?  Answer, two with one EMS vehicle

  • Why this location and not in Sendero?  Answer, Because the fire stations cannot be more than 3 miles apart and if it was located in Sendero that would be more than 3 miles from the fire station in BC South.

  • Does the MUD own the fire department?  No, not anymore.  The fire department services several developments including Tonkawa Springs, Brushy Bend, Great Oaks etc.

  • What would be the operating hours?  Answer, 24/7

  • Would the vehicles use their sirens late at night?  Answer, No.

  • Would the fire station have big spotlights etc.?  Answer, No

  • Where would the entrance and exit be located on the lot?  Answer, That has not been decided yet.

  • Where would the vehicle turnaround be?  Answer, Right now it would be at Park and Great Oaks, but eventually a crossover would be made just like they have at the BC South Station.

  • Why not build the station at the corner of Great Oaks and Sam Bass?  Answer, Not enough room because of the detention pond at that corner.

  • Can the residents of BCN have an active role in the development of this new station?  Answer, Yes, absolutely.

  • What will happen to the hike and bike trail that is supposed to go through that lot to connect the park and Great Oaks?  Answer, The fire Department will make sure to include that extension of the trail in their overall plans for the station.
